35th Year Celebrations - in a tented camp - in the midst of a white desert

Dear Friends,

Here is a great opportunity - to be together, again. This time the arrangement is absolutely new, different and, I am confident, it is going to be memorable.

The program is like this - we meet at Bhuj (Gujarat) on 30 Dec. 2011 morning. A bus will take us to a place called - DHORDO, somewhere in the Rann of Kutch. An AC tented accommodation with all modern facilities will be set up especially for us.

This 4 days-3 nights program (30th Dec'11 to 2nd Jan'12) will have several attractions one of them being watching glittering white sand desert on a full moon night.

A gala dinner (away from the camp site) on 31st Dec. night will have much to look forward to - such as a great dinner, dance and booze - to welcome the new year 2012. Food will be vegetarian except for the gala dinner on 31st night and water will be bottled water.

Almost 20-25 persons (and their respective spouses) have already confirmed their participation. Please do let us know about your plans. The cost per couple is coming to Rs. 22,000/-. This amount can be sent directly through NEFT to

Sunil Parekh (A/c No:002401500694)

35th Anniversary Reunion Dinner - A report

The end January evening chill at the open air venue of Friends Club gradually melted as the party warmed up with the arrival of buddies on the 30th January 2011 for the 35th anniversary reunion dinner.

While most of the participants were regulars who have been attending reunion dinners every year, there were some notable absentees - like Anand Khemka, Ashok Kapur, Neeraj Nagpal, etc. Laljani was a surprise participant who had possibly come for the first time. M S Bawa, having had his tryst with a heart attack, was recuperating at home. We missed him.

We missed Bawa all the more because he is one of the signatories for the bank account and, also, he has been responsible for arranging photographer every year. So, this year there was no photography -barring some photos that were taken by some people with their mobile phone cams. No problems Bawa, next year you must be back with all your arrangements.

FUNDS - The residual funds from the Silver Jubilee celebrated in Dec 2000 lasted long enough and we could organize six annual dinners without sourcing for additional contributions. Alas, all good things come to an end one day. With the bank account exhausted we made an appeal for contributions and, as expected almost everyone promised to contribute Rs. 10,000 so that this annual reunion can continue uninterrupted.

Some logistic problems are to be worked out and then the contribution cheques will be accepted.

Mail from Ashok Jhaveri

I just received an email from Ashok Jhaveri in response to my mailer for the Reunion Dinner on 30th Jan 2011. Though he sent it to the group mail ID of the class it deserves to be put here so that all those who missed it can see it too:

Dear Hemkant & AKB,
Abe kamino, Pan-IIT ke time sab Delhiwale mar gaye the kya? Kasam se koi maai ka laal deekhai nahi diya, except couple of our '76mates like Himanshu Vaish, Manpreet Bawa, Vinay Bagla...that's all!
Ab kyon tkt or chhutti dega? Mera b..p! We were quite a few who were there from Mumbai, Baroda & other places! A planning of reunion our '76mates at that time would hv been a perfect choice! In fact, this thought would hv pulled in many more of our batch mates to come over!
Ab 30 Jan ko hamari aur se sub log ghant bajana! I doubt if we guys out of Delhi can really make it! However, let us try our best to pull in few.
Meanwhile, during this reunion, I suggest we batch mates should decide to hv this reunion every 2nd/3rd. Is liye ki sale apne aadhe logo ke adhe paav to kabar mei pahuch chuke hei! We should not be waiting long to meet regularly.
Am I right guys? If yes, then we also plan a different destination with few date/day of d year at each time. We do hv at many places our few mates residing. Different venue wl be exciting & interesting to most of us.
This time when u guys meet, pl let us hv a complete directory of our '76 # with detailed history, geography, family tree, etc. of each guys. Biwi-bachcho ki bhi profile jaroori hei. Sala apna bunda kabhi ooth gaya to un logo ka khyal kaun rakhega?
All d best, take care & hv a blast!
Luv
Ashok+Rupal
PS: We recently had a big blast during our son, Kunal's wedding with Yuti on 29th Dec'10 in Mumbai. We could invite many of our IIT friends (precisely 66) for d grand party. Quite a few could come to grace d occasion. Thanks to them! Magar pure Delhi se ek hi apna bunda aaya...Manpreet Bawa. Pl do check with him how was d experience? Gujju kabhi jhood nahe bolta! I may request Manpreet to put his experience on d mail for all to hv a feel of it. Regret also that quite a few batch/class mates could not be invited, due to lack of contact with them, address & time. Let us correct & incorporate all these deficient factors in our second inning of life! Nahi to sale sab badmash agle janaam mei wapas milenge...!!
